Major Arcana
Death
- endings
- transformation
- release
- renewal
On the card
A skeleton in black armour rides a white horse and carries a black banner with a white rose, as a king lies fallen and a cleric, a young woman and a child face it, while the sun rises between two distant towers.
Upright
Death is a card of endings that make room for something new. It rarely speaks of anything literal; instead it marks the close of a chapter, a habit or an identity you have outgrown. Letting go can be tender and hard, yet it clears the ground for real renewal.
Reversed
Reversed, Death can show resistance to an ending that is already happening, or a feeling of being stuck in limbo. Holding on may leave you tired and stagnant. Ask what is asking to be released, and what might grow in its place.
- Love & connection
- In love, it points to transformation – a relationship moving into a deeper phase, or the closing of an old pattern so that something healthier can begin.
- Work & purpose
- At work, it can mark the end of one role or approach and the start of a more fitting one.
- A prompt for you
- Name one thing you are ready to let go of, with gratitude.
